Director Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT)
OVERALL PURPOSE
The Director is responsible for the strategic educational leadership and management of the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT) and for the provision of high level strategic advice on learning and teaching to senior university officers.MAJOR CHALLENGES / FREEDOM TO ACT
The position reports to and receives broad direction from the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning). Within the bounds of the responsibilities of the position, the incumbent is expected to exercise considerable initiative and professional judgement, frequently working with the most senior staff in the institution. The Director CILT will lead planning and setting of priorities for CILT. The Director will provide broad supervision to the Deputy-Director CILT and set priorities in consideration with the Deputy Director.The major challenges of the position are to:
• Establish the structure and priorities for CILT and develop its internal and external profile;
• Develop the learning and teaching support capacity of CILT with respect to its vocational, further education and higher education activities;
• Further develop the strategic research and development capacities of CILT staff to support quality teaching and learning and ‘Making VU’ across the University;
• Support the University's teaching and learning development such that VU builds a strong external reputation for quality and innovation in multi-sector educational institution;
• Work with the PVC (T&L) and particularly with the Dean, Victoria University College and Director, Courses and Pathways Services (CAPS) to provide flexible and responsive processes and approaches for supporting teaching and learning across VU.MAJOR DUTIES, PERFORMED AND FREQUENCY
The Director CILT is accountable for key strategic leadership and management to CILT and as a senior university educational leader for providing advice on innovative teaching and learning. The Director takes a proactive approach and works in close collaboration with other senior Faculty and University staff. In performing the following duties, the Director CILT is required to ensure CILT complies with quality assurance policies and procedures, and other relevant legislative and policy requirements applicable to the University. Academic appointments will not be constrained by the requirements of the Victoria University Educational Leadership Policy and workload requirements that apply to Faculty based positions.The major duties performed and their frequency are:
1. Lead the development of CILT and provide high level teaching and learning advice and support to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Teaching and Learning and University senior management. (ongoing)
2. Effectively manage the budget, human resources, space and equipment of CILT so that services and projects are effectively and efficiently delivered. (ongoing)
3. Lead the development and implementation of a teaching and learning professional development strategy to support the implementation of ‘Making VU’. (ongoing)
4. Provide leadership to staff in CILT and ensure that appropriate professional and career development opportunities are available. (ongoing)
5. Provide high level strategic advice in the form of written papers and verbal briefings in all areas of CILT’s responsibilities to the senior management of the University. (as required)
6. Through the building of relationships, identify and secure internal and external opportunities for enhancing the capacity and reputation of CILT. (as required)
7. Oversee the preparation of high level teaching and learning documentation required by the University to reach appropriate agreements and fulfil obligations with relevant external bodies. (as required)
8. Lead and manage the review of and further develop the University’s teaching and learning policies and quality assurance mechanisms. Oversee the development, review and monitoring of relevant plans using agreed KPI’s. (as required)
9. Ensure that appropriate systems and processes are developed and/or followed such as the annual OHS Plan, including ensuring appropriate training, supervision and monitoring are available to enable compliance with all statutory requirements and University policies. (ongoing)
