Small group teaching introductory workshop.
Staff teaching small group situations (tutorials or laboratories) have the opportunity to participate in a two day workshop run by the Centre for LATTES. When staff are working within a Teaching Community the workshop is a necessary prerequisite. For other staff is an optional professional development opportunity. It is designed for staff with and without prior teaching experience.
The workshop deals with a range of general learning issue that frame good practice as a teacher in all learning situations, and establishes a language to discuss learning. While many education theories are discussed, the workshop is designed as a sharing of experience and knowledge of the participants rather than a "tell how to teach" experience. Modelling of good practice is fundamental to the workshop.
Teaching Communities are reliant on the ability of the participating staff to reflect on their practice and share their experiences (good and bad) with other members of the Teaching Community. This workshop provides the educational theory frameworks, and the relevant jargon to communicate effectively.
Workshops are usually run in the week prior to the start of each semester, when teaching allocations are settled.
